Dragon Mart prepares to reopen as Dubai eases lockdown restrictions

DUBAI – Specialists teams have conducted a disinfection campaign in Dragon Mart as the popular mall geared up for reopening, according to the Dubai Media Office. On Friday, authorities in Dubai eased movement restrictions across the emirate, lifting its 24-hour lockdown to allow people to move freely between 6am and 10pm. Malls, cafes and restaurants were also allowed to reopen under strict conditions. At Dragon Mart, teams from mall operator Nakheel Malls disinfected all areas, including elevators and escalators ahead of the mall’s reopening. According to the Dubai Media Office, Nahkeel Malls was “pulling out all the stops to ensure safety and well-being of customer, staff and tenants as it gears up to reopen Nakheel Mall, Ibn Battuta Mall, Dragon Mart and other destinations across Dubai. Dragon Mart is a popular shopping centre for Chinese products and has been a popular haunt for budget shoppers in the UAE and the GCC.

With the Covid-19 pandemic, the mall has seen a huge drop in footfall, exacerbated by rumours that circulated on social media earlier this year about alleged coronavirus infections there. Dubai authorities have debunked the rumours and warned of strict penalties for those who spread wrong information. ICA/Expat Media
