Stranded hikers rescued from Ras Al Khaimah mountain

DUBAI – Two European siblings have been rescued from Jebel Jais mountain in Ras Al Khaimah after being stranded there on Tuesday night. Ras Al Khaimah Police and Civil Defence said they received a report about the siblings in distress at around 7:10pm on Tuesday. The siblings were hiking when they lost their way up in the mountain as nighttime fell. It took rescuers more than two hours to rescue them in the rugged terrain in the dark. “It took two and a half hours to evacuate them from their location due to the difficult terrain and darkness,” the Ministry of Interior said in a statement. The ministry said that despite the ordeal, the siblings were in good health. Meanwhile, the ministry also reminded the public to stay home during the coronavirus outbreak. The UAE has relaxed its lockdown during the pandemic, allowing people to leave their homes from 6am to 10pm daily. ICA/Expat Media
