Two drivers in Abu Dhabi caused serious accidents when they suddenly stopped in the middle of the highway due to unexpected hazards, as shown in a video posted by Abu Dhabi Police on Friday (October 18). Watch the video below: The first accident in the video shows a pickup truck carrying a load of mattresses. As the truck was driving, one of the mattresses fell onto the road, causing other drivers to swerve and change lanes. Instead of avoiding the mattress, a white car stopped. A water delivery truck then crashed into the car, causing the truck to flip onto its side, nearly hitting other vehicles. In the second accident, steel rods rolled onto the highway. While several cars drove over the rods, a white van suddenly stopped, leading to another car crashing into its rear. "Just avoid such unexpected hazards on the roads; do not stop for any reason," the Abu Dhabi Police said in the post. In the UAE, stopping in the middle of the road is a traffic offence that can result in a fine of Dh1,000 and six black points. "In case of car breakdowns, it is important to stay off the road and use the bays designated for emergency situations. Use the right shoulder in case only in cases of extreme necessity," said Brig Mahmoud Yousef Al Balushi, director of the Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate. "Use the four-way warning signals and then head to the nearest exit," he added.
