Abu Dhabi Police has issued a warning after two drivers caused serious accidents by stopping abruptly on the highway due to unexpected hazards. A video released by the police on Friday (October 18) shows a truck crashing into a car after one driver stopped upon seeing a mattress fall off a pickup truck. The footage reveals a white vehicle coming to a sudden halt instead of avoiding the mattress. A water delivery truck then crashes into the stopped car, flipping onto its side and narrowly missing other vehicles. In a second accident caught on camera, a white van stops abruptly after spotting steel rods lying on the highway. The sudden stop caused a car to rear-end the van, leading to another serious collision.

Police officials are urging drivers to avoid stopping in the middle of the road, even when faced with unexpected obstacles. “Just avoid such unexpected hazards on the roads; do not stop for any reason,” the Abu Dhabi Police stated. Stopping on the road is a traffic offense in the UAE, punishable by a Dh1,000 fine and six black points. Brigadier Mahmoud Yousef Al Balushi, Director of Traffic and Security Patrols, emphasized the importance of staying alert and using designated emergency bays in case of breakdowns. “Use the four-way warning signals and then head to the nearest exit,” he advised. The police also reminded motorists to remain focused while driving and to avoid distractions, particularly in situations involving road hazards. ICA/Expat Media
