Abu Dhabi Police warns motorists against reckless overtaking and lane changing. The authority shared multiple footage on X, showing the dangers of changing lanes in violation of traffic laws. In the first footage, a car can be seen making a sudden lane change, swerving dangerously close to a public transport bus that could have resulted in a severe crash. The second footage captures a car colliding with another after a reckless lane change, causing an accident and significant damage to the car's exterior. In a third video, a trailer truck is seen shifting lanes onto the hard shoulder while cars speed by in their designated lanes. This illustrates the potential danger smaller vehicles face when large trucks perform such manoeuvres. The authority once again warned motorists to check their blind spots while changing lanes and avoid using the hard shoulder for overtaking. Using the shoulder for overtaking is a serious violation under Article 42 of the federal traffic law, carrying a Dh1,000 fine and six black points. Sudden deviation or swerving ranked among the top five violations, responsible for 71 percent of total fatalities and 61 percent of injuries on UAE roads in 2023. Statistics from the Ministry of Interior show there were 4,391 traffic accidents in 2023, compared to 3,945 in the previous year. These accidents led to 352 fatalities. FLE/Expat Media
