Mike D'Antoni of the Houston Rockets is named Coach of the Year

  OKLAHOMA - Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook was named the NBA's 2016-2017 MVP, beating James Harden, Kawhi Leonard and LeBron James for the highest individual honor bestowed by the cage association during its inaugural awards night held at Pier 36 in New York City on Monday.

Westbrook garnered 69 of the 101 votes cast for the MVP award while Harden had 22, Leonard had nine and James had one. In his acceptance speech, Westbrook thanked God, his family and the Thunder. "I remember growing up just being home, playing the video games and stuff with my pops, and my mom sitting there and my brother and just talking about maybe one day I could be the MVP. Obviously I was joking at the time. But now to be standing here with this trophy next to me is a true blessing, man, and it's an unbelievable feeling, something that I can never imagine," said Westbrook. According to an ESPN, Westbrook made the 2016-2017 season "a memorable one" by becoming only the second player ever after Oscar Robertson in 1962 to average a triple-double and breaking Robertson's record for most triple-doubles in a season with 42.
