Wifi, CCTV cameras on new Sharjah intercity buses

  DUBAI – Those plying the route to Sharjah will experience convenient travel after the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Sharjah added  high-tech buses fitted with CCTV cameras and wifi. These buses, worth Dh3.5 million, also feature internal and external LED screens. Abdulaziz Al Jarwan, RTA Sharjah for Transport Affairs, said there is also a special camera for alerting the bus driver of the safety space when reversing or driving ahead. Passengers will enjoy Wifi on board including high quality air conditioners, spacious lockers, and many other mechanical and electric options. The buses are also equipped with an advanced alarm system and quality sensors to avoid any unexpected closure of the doors. Al Jarwan said that the new shuttle will be operated on medium long trips, particularly between Sharjah and Ajman. It has a capacity of 37 to 65 seats. "The King Long Chinese buses, the fourth batch so far, have been specially made and provided with specific contents to safely cover a distance of 2,000km every day and go with the latest safety international standards," Al Jarwan said. To date, RTA Sharjah has 16 intercity public buses, which all start from Al Jubail Bus Station, opposite the Fish Market. "We have launched two new routes this year; one connects Sharjah with Al Ain and the other links Sharjah with the Dubai International Airport, Terminal 2," Al Jarwan said. Tickets for short trips cost between Dh5 to Dh20. Passengers going on long trips will have to pay Dh20 to Dh30. Jarwan said that the tariff was decided based on the distance of the trip.
