Wizz Air Abu Dhabi is shutting down all operations from September 1, 2025, leaving thousands of travelers wondering: What happens next? The airline announced that it is permanently suspending all flights to and from the UAE capital due to what it described as “geopolitical instability, repeated airspace closures, and regulatory challenges” in the region. Travelers who booked flights beyond August 31 are now being advised to take immediate action. “Passengers with existing bookings beyond 31 August 2025 will be contacted directly via email with options for refunds or alternative travel arrangements,” Wizz Air said in a statement on X (formerly Twitter). “Customers who booked through third-party providers are advised to contact their respective agents.” Here’s what you need to do if you’re affected: • Booked directly with Wizz Air: Check your inbox for an email from the airline. It will contain instructions for claiming a refund or selecting alternate flight options. • Booked through a third-party: Contact the booking website or travel agent you used to arrange your ticket. They will manage the refund or rebooking process on your behalf. • Booked after cancellation date was announced: If you purchased a ticket after July 15 for flights beyond August 31, you are still entitled to a refund. The airline clarified that the suspension only affects flights operated by Wizz Air Abu Dhabi and not the wider Wizz Air group, which will continue to operate flights in Europe and other regions. This strategic pullback will affect about 700 employees in Abu Dhabi. The company has not yet confirmed if these staff will be relocated or laid off. Wizz Air CEO József Váradi said the airline will now redirect its focus toward Central and Eastern Europe, and is in talks to modify aircraft orders to better align with its revised operational priorities.
