Woman with 5.7 kg of cocaine inside a suitcase caught in Dubai airport

A woman from Latin America attempting to smuggle more than five kilograms of cocaine into the emirate was caught at Dubai International Airport. The woman’s luggage was flagged for an X-ray when the inspection staff became suspicious after the scan revealed an unusually dense area at the bottom of her suitcase. When the customs officials asked for her passport, the woman insisted that she had nothing to declare. The defiance resulted in a full inspection of her suitcase. Inspectors discovered a secret pocket in the inner lining of her suitcase where black plastic packages containing 3.2 kg of cocaine were hidden. Another 2.4 pounds were stashed in shampoo and moisturizer bottles. “Dubai Customs plays a vital role in the country’s efforts to fight narcotics trafficking through its advanced infrastructure and highly trained inspection officers,” said Ibrahim Kamali, director of the Passenger Operations Department.
