Woman demands Dh1 million compensation after a miscarriage due to stress at work

An Arab woman filed a case against her former employer, demanding Dh1 million in compensation for the miscarriage of her fetus as a result of work-related stress. She demanded the company to pay her a Dh180,000 leave allowance, a Dh694,000 incentive, a Dh510,000 land commission, and a Dh500,000 9-year building rental commission for each lease. The woman claimed in the lawsuit that she had an egg implantation procedure and became pregnant. The company allegedly contacted the woman to arrange her early retirement. She explained her predicament and presented necessary documentation to request a reschedule of the discussion, which the company refused. According to the woman, the stress of the incident caused her to miscarry her fetus. Initially, the Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance ordered the company to pay Dh324,000 for unpaid salaries and severance compensation. The other requests were denied. Consequently, the company appealed the verdict to the Abu Dhabi appeals court and was granted a reduced penalty of Dh165,000. The company will also have to pay the woman's termination benefits.
