Woman gets jail term for tampering passport stamps
DUBAI - A woman who tampered with the entry and exit stamps on her passport will spend three months in jail, the Dubai Court of Appeals has ruled.
She will also be deported after serving her jail term.
When the 25-year-old Tajik woman appealed her sentence, she denied that she had tampered with her passport as she checked into the Dubai aiprport in November.
“I did not forge the entry and exit stamps … it was my jealous friend who did it. Actually I had no reason to forge my travel document which is valid and I have a valid visa as well,” she said.
An airport residency officer had testified in court that the tampered stamps were discovered as the woman handed her passport for checking at the residency counter.
"When I opened the passport, I realised that there were two forged stamps . The written dates had been tampered with on two pages. On checking the e-system, there were no records to show that she had entered or exited through the airport on the mentioned dates,” the officer testified.
The Tajik defendant has 25 days to appeal the ruling.
