The defendant approached the woman, telling her he wanted to have sex with her

DUBAI – The Dubai Court of First Instance has convicted a 28-year-old Algerian national of molesting a Bahraini female lawyer in a mall and sentenced him to six months in prison. The 43-year-old lawyer and a friend were walking around a mall when the defendant called her and asked her to stop. The defendant approached the lawyer then told her that he wanted to befriend her and have sex with her. Appalled, the woman picked up her slipper and beat the man, who began cursing the woman and calling her names. The defendant also allegedly inappropriately touched the lawyer twice before fleeing. The lawyer however managed to take a video of the man and showed it to the police who arrested the defendant. The Algerian defendant told the court that he did not molest her and claimed that the woman cursed his mother so he slapped and pushed her. But the tribunal convicted him of molesting the lawyer and cursing her in public. The defendant will be deported after serving his jail sentence. The court's ruling is subject to appeal within 15 days.
