Woman murdered in Al Ain: court orders Dh200,000 blood money

The Al Ain Court of First Instance has acquitted an Asian man of the charge of murdering an Arab woman in Al Ain after finding him in “unstable mental state”. The court, however, ordered him to pay blood money of Dh200,000 to the heirs of the victim. He will be placed in a treatment center. According to records, the Asian man stabbed the woman in the chest, which caused her death. He also attempted to kill another man with a knife, but the victim survived. The attacker then tried to kill himself by stabbing himself with a knife. He was arrested and later tested positive for using mind-altering drugs. During interrogation, the man claimed that he did not remember stabbing the woman, saying he did not have any dispute with her. He also denied attempting to kill the other man. A report from the Al Ain Government Hospital and Khalifa Medical City confirmed that the man suffered from mental illness at the time of committing the crime. The court then ruled that the man could not be held criminally responsible due to his mental illness at the time of committing the crime. ICA/Expat Media
