Woman 'no longer need ambulance service' after hearing liaison officer's voice

In light of April fools, liaison officers had a unique encounter after they received a call from a woman who needed ambulance service saying that she was in a state of fatigue but then proceeds to say she didn't need it anymore after hearing the officer's voice. "When I heard your voice, I have been relieved and no longer need the ambulance service," the woman said. Several reports of fake calls have been received by National Ambulance officials. 40 percent of the 44,459 calls received on the emergency number 998 during the first quarter of this year consisted of fake reports and general inquiries. Another resident called the 998 requesting to have eye drops delivered to his house because they didn't have money to take a taxi to the hospital. The number of reports received by the operations center doubled during the past two years as compared to the monthly average of the number of reports before the outbreak of Covid-19. Officials have called to action and asked people in the UAE to refrain from calling the ambulance emergency number with general inquiries or for entertainment as this hinders the efforts of the National Ambulance teams.
