Suspect is woman's guarantor in a residency case; suspect denies accusation

DUBAI – An Uzbekistan woman has accused an Emirati man of raping her in his flat in Al Nahda last January and then throwing her outside his home naked. The 39-year-old suspect, who was the complainant's guarantor in a residency case, denied the accusation against him. "She is a family acquaintance and often visits me but I didn't do anything to her nor did I kick her out of the flat naked," said the suspect, who was charged with rape and sexual assault before the Dubai Court of First Instance. The complainant said she met the suspect through her sister six months ago and that the suspect bailed her out after she was arrested for overstaying in the country. On January 21, the woman went to the suspect's house to discuss details of a residency case filed against her in court since he was her guarantor. "That day, I went to his residence as usual to discuss my case ... we sat at the balcony where he had been drinking liquor. He had a heated argument with his children and sent them away, and then he yelled at me, grabbed my phone and tossed it from the window. When I tried to leave the flat, he pulled me from my hair and dragged me into the bedroom. He turned physically violent and raped me. He abused me for nearly two hours ... I injured myself when I fell to the ground while trying to protect myself. When he finished, he dragged me again from my hair and pushed me out of the flat where I was left naked," the woman told prosecutors. A policeman testified that the suspect had claimed that he and the complainant have had consensual sex for a year and that he locked her outside of his home naked after they had an argument. But the complainant denied having consensual sex with the suspect. "I visited him at his residence several times to discuss my criminal case. I never slept over at his flat and we never kissed or had sex before," she said. CCTV footage showed the woman arriving the suspect's home and chatting with his children. "Then the clip shows her coming out of the flat but there was someone pushing her from behind the door – his face wasn't showing," said the policeman. The court will continue its hearing on the case on June 29.
