Police take to social media to search for woman to honor her

RAS AL KHAIMAH – Police have taken to social media to search for a woman who rescued a driver of a burning truck that figured in a vehicular accident on Martyrs Road last week. Maj. Tareq Al Sharhan, Head of the Emergency Department at Ras Al Khaimah Police, said they hope that their search would lead them to the woman so that they can honor her. According to reports, the woman used her abaya to put out the flames that were eating the injured driver's clothes. An abaya is a black full-length, loose garment worn by Muslim women. Al Shahan posted a video of the incident and the woman's heroic act on his Instagram account. "A few days ago, an unidentified woman had done a heroic job during this accident and she left the scene quietly," he said. He urged the public to help the police find the woman. Reports said the collision between the two trucks caused one of the vehicles to burst in flames. The driver of that truck jumped out of the vehicle with his clothes on fire.

The woman motorist happened to pass by and saw the driver. She stopped her car, took off her abaya and covered the man's body, making sure the fire was out before leaving the scene. The driver was taken to a hospital by responding emergency teams for treatment of his burns.
