Women are safer drivers than men in UAE, survey reveals
DUBAI – A new survey has revealed that women are safer drivers than men in the UAE. The survey by RoadSafetyUAE was released on Monday (March 8) as the world marked International Women’s Day. According to the survey, women tend to be safer drivers because they have been involved in fewer accidents. Women also were less likely to speed or break traffic rules. The survey showed that only 21 percent of women were involved in traffic accidents in the last six months compared to 26 percent of men. The survey by RoadSafetyUAE polled 1,000 drivers as part of the UAE Road Safety Monitor research that has been ongoing for six years. “A more careful attitude can be observed while analysing the behaviour of UAE lady drivers,” said Thomas Edelmann, founder and managing director of RoadSafetyUAE. According to the survey, female drivers were more likely to use indicators when changing lanes and less likely to tailgate or use mobile phones while driving. Seventy-one percent of women said they indicated when changing lanes, while only 65 percent of men said they used indicators when switching lanes. Only 21 percent of women engaged in road rage compared to 25 percent of men. On the issue of tailgating, men were more likely to drive too close to a vehicle compared to women.
