'Our work is not done yet’: New Philippine consul general tells Filipinos in UAE on pavilion support

DUBAI – The incoming Philippine Consul General in Dubai urged Filipinos in the UAE to do more as the community’s support for the Philippine Pavilion at Expo 2020 continued. “ five more months (before Expo 2020 closes). Our work is not done yet,” Renato Duenas Jr. said at a recent event hosted by the Philippine Business Council-Dubai and Northern Emirates. Duenas was “passed the baton” by Philippine Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes, who ends his six-year stint in the UAE this October. “All sectors of the Philippine community must be engaged. We must make sure we have that bond… It’s very important to keep that interaction alive and kicking,” Cortes said in his parting message. For his part, Duenas thanked Cortes for his support and said he will “continue where (Congen Consul General Cortes) left off”. Duenas served as deputy consul general at the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai before being named consul general. Duenas praised the Filipino community, led by the Philippine Business Council, for running “one of the most successful campaigns” in promoting the Philippine pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. He described it as a “huge accomplishment”, saying he was impressed with the official Bangkota song and dance that the group put together as part of a community campaign. ICA/Expat Media
