Rescuers manage to pluck out Asian man after five hours of operation

  DUBAI – Rescuers saved an Asian worker last Monday after he fell and got trapped in a pit in a construction site in Al Barsha area. The man got stuck in the pit filled with running groundwater after sand and gravel fell on him, nearly covering him. Lt. Col. Ahmed Atik Bu Ruqaiba, deputy director of the Dubai Police search and rescue department, said the worker fell into the pit by accident. It took rescuers five hours to free the man. Captain Abdullah Al Rahoomi led the rescue operation as emergency workers used a water pump and other rescue equipment to pull out the worker. The running groundwater made the rescue difficulty, according to Al Rahoomi, but they were able to get the worker out of the pit. The worker was given first aid by paramedics after he was pulled out of the hole.
