A worker in Abu Dhabi has been awarded Dh99,567 in unpaid wages after a local court ruled in his favor following a three-month salary delay. The employee, who was working under a fixed-term contract, filed a complaint with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) after his salary went unpaid for nearly three months. When the issue wasn’t resolved through mediation, the case was referred to the Abu Dhabi Primary Labour Court. In his legal claim, the worker said he was contractually entitled to a Dh12,000 basic salary and Dh29,000 total monthly pay. He requested the court to order the employer to pay the full overdue amount along with legal costs. Although a company representative appeared at the hearing, they failed to present any documentation to refute the employee's claims. Since the burden of proof lies with the employer in wage disputes, the court sided with the employee. The company was ordered to pay Dh99,567 in full, which constitutes the worker's three months' worth of wages and legal costs. ICA/Expat Media
