World's heaviest woman to defy all odds for life-changing surgery an ocean away from home

  DUBAI - A 36-year-old woman from Egypt is set to travel to India for a potentially life-saving surgery as she battles with her debilitating weight of 500kg. Eman Ahmad Abdul Ati's family said that she had not been able to leave her home in Egypt due to her condition but that it was necessary for her to make the trip. The trip is expected to cost Abdul Ati, considered the world's heaviest woman alive, Dh1 million. She is expected to fly to Mumbai within a week. Muffazal Lakdawala, a bariatric surgeon at the Center for Obesity and Digestive Surgery in Mumbai, will operate on Abdul Ati for free. Lakdawala was quoted by the Times of India as saying that Abdul Ati’s surgery will be “very high risk". Lakdawala said he was determined to help. “If I can somehow use whatever God-gifted talent I have to save her,” he said, “I must try,” he said. The doctor has reportedly been in contact with several commercial airlines to arrange for Abdul Ati's transportation. “It will be easier to transport her in a commercial flight, considering her weight.
