$15M world’s largest flawless diamond unveiled in Dubai

The world’s largest flawless diamond, the Golden Canary yellow diamond, has been unveiled in Dubai ahead of its world tour. According to Sotheby’s Dubai, the diamond is valued at about $15 million (Dh55 million) when it goes for auction in December. The Golden Canary is one of the largest cut diamonds to exist and weighs 303.10 carats, making it the largest flawless diamond in the world, according to the Gemmological Institute of America. After its Dubai debut, the unique stone will travel to Taipei, Hong Kong and Geneva before heading to New York for an auction on December 7 where it will be sold to the highest bidder. The pear-cut diamond is currently on display at the Sotheby's Dubai gallery in Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC). The diamond was discovered in the early 1980s in the Democratic Republic of Congo by a girl playing in her uncle’s backyard, which was near a diamond mining site. ICA/Expat Media
