  CEBU CITY – Cebuanos took to social media to air their ordeal following heavy flooding that left hundreds of people stranded on the streets. Residents have called Friday’s floods as the worst in recent memory, with some roads remaining waterlogged on Sunday (July 3). Photos that circulated on social media showed streets in Cebu City and neighbouring Mandaue City submerged in water following Friday’s downpour in Cebu. The floods damaged homes and properties and halted businesses. Many people were stranded for hours in malls and establishments as rising water flooded the streets. Others were seen wading through neck-deep water to get home. On Sunday, two days after the downpour, JR Chan of Mandaue City posted photos of a submerged A.S. Fortuna street, describing it as the “second day of waterworld” in the area. “In our place we have a floating SUV and a boat in the middle of the road,” Chan wrote on Facebook. Cebu resident Andrew James said he was stuck in traffic for more than one hour on the way home from work on Friday. His regular commute was supposed to take just ten minutes. Many posted photos of submerged motorcyles and vehicles in various areas of Cebu City and Mandaue City, including Minglanilla town in southern Cebu. Friday’s floods were blamed on clogged drainage systems.
