UN: Yemen’s Houthi rebels agreed to stop recruiting children as soldiers

Yemen's Houthi rebels have agreed to remove thousands of child soldiers who fought during the seven-year civil conflict. The Houthis agreed to sign the action plan to terminate and prevent the recruitment of children in armed conflict, including the killing or maiming of children and the targeting of schools and hospitals. According to Stephane Dujarric, U.N. spokesperson, the Houthis have committed to releasing children from their ranks within six months. Hussein al-Azey, the Houthis' deputy foreign minister, and Philippe Duamelle, a delegate from the United Nations Children's Agency, posed for photos at the signing ceremony in Yemen after tackling the agreement plan to protect children. According to the United Nations, about 10,200 children have been killed or wounded during the war. However, it is unclear how many were directly involved in combat. BKM/ Expat Media
