Ynez Veneracion wants to be a lesbian character

  DUBAI – From starring in sexy films to becoming a villain in TV soaps, has Ynez Veneracion done it all? Not quite, the actress said. Since her first movie Ibigin Mo Ako, Mahalin Mo Ako in 1997, Veneracion has starred in more than 50 movies and dozens of TV series, playing diverse roles that challenged her versatility as an actress. But there’s one role she would love to do if given the chance. “I want to be a lesbian character! Isn’t that just a tough role?” she told Expatmedia.net in Dubai on Thursday, one day ahead of her three-day gig in the UAE. The actress will be in Abu Dhabi on August 4, in Dubai on August 5 and Fujairah on August 6. “I’ve tried everything. I have played a paralytic. I have also played the role of a straight woman in lesbian relationship, but I haven’t tried a full lesbian role. I think it would be very challenging to me as an actress to do play the part and convince the audience,” she said. Her most memorable role was playing a woman who had breast cancer in The Healing, a movie by acclaimed director Chito Rono and stars veteran actress Vilma Santos. “I could not say no to that movie because the story was very challenging and who wouldn’t want to be in a film by Chito Rono and Vilma Santos?” she said. Veneracion said she’s happy and thankful with the offers that continue to come her way but that her priorities have changed since becoming a mother. “It’s flattering that I still get offers to do sexy movies, but I am now more selective when it comes to projects because I now have a daughter,” said Veneracion, who is raising a six-year-old daughter singlehandedly. She plans to take her daughter on a side trip to Wild Wadi and a desert safari during their stay in Dubai, which she said has changed a lot since she first visited the emirate in 2011. “As soon as I landed at the airport, I was trying to reminisce the last time I was here, but everything has changed!” she exclaimed, adding that she was happier seeing more Filipinos in the emirate. “Parang nasa Quezon City lang ako!” she said with a guffaw.
