Director to spend more time with family after suicide of 20-year-old daughter last March

  HOLLYWOOD - Filmmaker Zack Snyder has dropped out of the "Justice League" movie slated for release this November to be with his family after the suicide of his 20-year-old daughter last March. Joss Whedon, who directed "The Avengers" and "Avengers: Age of Ultron", will take over from Snyder. Snyder previously helmed "Batman versus Superman: Dawn of Justice", "300" and "Watchmen". "In the last two months, I've decided to take a step back from the movie to be with my family, be with my kids, who really need me. They are all having a hard time. I'm having a hard time," Snyder told The Hollywood Reporter. It was the first time that Snyder spoke about his family tragedy. "In my mind, I thought it was a cathartic thing to go back to work, to just bury myself and see if that was the way through it. The demands of this job are pretty intense. It is all-consuming," he said. The Snyder family kept the suicide of Autumn to themselves but after "Justice League" required additional scenes that will be shot in the UK, the director could not bear to be away from his family and asked Whedon to take over. "Here's the thing, I never planned to make this public. I thought it would just be in the family, a private matter, our private sorrow that we would deal with," Snyder said. Autumn was his daughter with former wife, Denise Weber, with whom he also had three other children. The director also had two children in another relationship and adopted two children with his second wife, Deborah Snyder. Deborah has also stepped down as producer of "Justice League" for the same reason. "I want the movie to be amazing, and I'm a fan, but that all pales pretty quickly in comparison. I know the fans are going to be worried about the movie but seven other kids need me. In the end, it's just a movie. It's a great movie. But it's just a movie," Zack said. Warner Bros. studio said they understand the Snyders' decision to drop out of the project.
