The Fatwa Council also announced other food values relating to Ramadan

The UAE Fatwa Council has released the value of Zakat Al Fitr along with other Ramadan-related amounts in food, charity, and violation. The Zakat Al-Fitr or the charity for the poor from the first day of Ramadan until the morning of Eid Al Fitr is valued at Dh25. Every Muslim man and woman who has the means to afford more than necessities is obliged to give Zakat Al Fitr as mandated by Prophet Muhammad. The Fidyah, or the food or cash value given to the poor by people unable to fast due to old age or illness, is valued at Dh15. The Iftar meal that will be taken at the end of the fasting is valued at a minimum of Dh15. The council also defines the values of the Kaffarah or the atonement for deliberate Ramadan fasting violations without valid Sharia (Islamic law) reasons. The Kaffarah for missing the fasting values at Dh900, which is equivalent for food good for 60 poor persons. Missing a day of Ramadan is set at Dh15 with the food given to the poor and is to be paid by the heirs of the individuals who died before being able to compensate for the missed fasting days at Ramadan. Those who missed the fasting days from the last Ramadan without valid reasons are also required to provide Dh15 worth of food for the poor for every missed day. Any mistake that is unrelated to their fasting will need to feed six poor persons or worth Dh90 of food. When one breaks an oath, the person is required to feed 10 poor persons or Dh150 worth of food. Household heads are also obliged to give the same Zakat Al Fitr amount to the non-earning family members. Fidyah and Kaffarah are to be paid to registered charities in the country. KSO/Expat Media
