The Zayed Grand Camel Race 2024 began on Monday (November 25) at the Al Wathba Camel Racetrack, uniting camel racing enthusiasts and participants from across the UAE and GCC. The prestigious event, which honors the legacy of the UAE's Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, runs until December 1, featuring 217 races and 36 trophies up for grabs. Organized by the Camel Racing Federation under the leadership of Sheikh Sultan bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Adviser to the UAE President, the event has become a symbol of Emirati heritage. Thousands of camels, some worth millions of dirhams, are competing in the races. Spectators are treated to thrilling scenes as camels thunder across the racetrack, their robotic jockeys ensuring fair and competitive races. Al Wathba, known for its state-of-the-art facilities, has drawn families and dignitaries alike to witness the sport’s grandeur. The Zayed Grand Camel Race is named after Sheikh Zayed, who is credited with institutionalizing camel racing as a sport over five decades ago. His commitment to preserving the sport has ensured its continued relevance in modern Emirati society. ICA/Expat Media
