6 dead, 12 injured in Afghanistan suicide blast

At least six people were killed and 12 injured in a blast near Afghanistan's ministry of foreign affairs on Monday (March 27), according to a hospital run by an Italian NGO in Kabul. Stefano Sozza of the Italian NGO Emergency, which manages the surgical facility in the heart of Kabul that specializes in treating war victims, stated, "We received some patients." According to Sozza, the incident happened close to the foreign ministry. Several government offices and international embassies are located in this heavily defended area, and two witnesses heard the sound of a huge explosion nearby. Requests for comment from the police, information ministry, and ministry of foreign affairs were not immediately granted. The suicide blast's origin was not immediately apparent. In recent months, Kabul and other urban areas have experienced several attacks, some of which have been claimed by terrorists associated with the Islamic State. At least five people were murdered, and dozens more were hurt in a bomb at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in January as staff members left the building at the end of the workday. The Taliban government has said that its main priority is securing the nation. It has recently conducted multiple operations against people it believes to be affiliated with the Islamic State.
