African guard to be deported for helping compatriots steal Dh600,000 from employer's vehicle

On charges of stealing Dh600,000 from their own employer's vehicle, the Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an African security guard and four colleagues, two of whom are fugitives, to two years in prison. After serving their term in prison, they will all be deported. The theft occurred in Dubai's Nada Al Sheba area in October 2021, when the victim discovered Dh600,000 missing from two bags in his vehicle. He claimed that the windows of his car, which was parked in his villa's parking lot, had been shattered. He went on to say that after analyzing  CCTV camera footage, he discovered that the African security guard let a number of people inside the villa, then broke the vehicle's window, while the others stole two bags containing Dh600,000 and fled. He reported the incident to the police. A police officer said that an investigation team apprehended the guard and two others and that during interrogation, the guard admitted to conspiring with four fellow countrymen to steal his employer's money. The guard accused his employer of being a gambler. He added that the two bags held Dh600,000 and that his portion of the stolen money was Dh150,000, which was sent to his residence, with the rest divided equally among the others. The other two suspects admitted that their security guard acquaintance conspired with them and two other people to steal the businessman's money. He also described the timing of the theft and supplied them with the location of the villa over WhatsApp. At 3am, they allegedly arrived at the place, where he was waiting for them. They then smashed the windows of the victim's car and stole Dh600,000 from inside while the victim was gambling with countrymen inside the villa, before fleeing the scene. KMB/Expat Media
