Anonymous donor saves Emirati teen in Dubai
DUBAI – An Emirati teenager in Dubai got a new lease of life and is on his way to full recovery, thanks to an anonymous kidney donor. Eissa Abdul Malik, 15, had waited for nearly a year for a healthy kidney after he suffered kidney failure in 2019. He received the life-saving organ in October. He underwent a successful four-hour transplant surgery at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi (CCAD). Dr. Bashir Sankari, chairman of CCAD’s Surgical subspecialties Institute, said the transplant was “life-saving” for Malik, whose condition deteriorated rapidly prior to getting the transplant. “We are fortunate that a donor was found on time and this young boy has been given a second chance in life,” Dr. Sankari said. Malik’s mother, Maryam, expressed her gratefulness for the organ donation, saying it is a “gift”. She could no longer donate a kidney after giving one of her kidneys to her daughter, according to The National. Maryam’s four children suffer from kidney issues. She encouraged people to join the UAE organ transplant registry, calling it an “amazing thing to do”.
