World leaders arrived in Dubai on Thursday (November 30) as the global climate change conference COP28 began. The COP28, which is held in Expo City Dubai, will run for two weeks until December 12. The Conference of the Parties (COP) is held under the United Nations. This year marks its 28th meeting, hence COP28, bringing together government leaders to negotiate goals to fight climate change. Here’s all you need to know:

November 30: King Charles III at opening ceremony

Britain’s King Charles III will attend the conference and opening ceremony on Thursday (November 30). You can watch the opening ceremony on the UN’s YouTube channel here He is scheduled to give a speech at the conference on Friday (December 1).

December 1-2: Leaders’ summit

The two-day leaders’ summit happening on Friday (December 1) is a key part of COP28 and gathers heads of state or governments to present their plans to fight climate change.

December 1-3: Sheikh Zayed Road temporarily closed

Sheikh Zayed Road’s Abu Dhabi-bound carriageway will be closed from 7am to 11am from December 1 to 3. The closure will span from the Trade Centre Roundabout until Exit 20 on Expo Road, according to the Roads and Transport Authority. Read more

December 3-12: Free tickets to Green Zone

While the Blue Zone at Expo City is strictly for COP28 delegates and invited guests, the general public can still take part in events at the Green Zone. Here, you can book a free ticket to visit from December 3 to 12. Registration for the Green Zone Day Pass is free via cop28.com. Visitor hours for the Green Zone hubs are from 10am to 6pm. Children aged 12 and under are not required to register for admission. Each ticket is valid only for the chosen date of visit. Read more
