COVID-19: UAE briefs educational establishments on updated national protocol

UAE announces an update to the national Covid-19 protocols for educational institutions during the 2022–2023 academic year. According to Hazza Al Mansouri, the Official Spokesman of the UAE's Education Sector, the update aims to ensure the safety of students and the educational community and protect the country's significant successes in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic. Students aged 12 and over and teaching and administrative staff and services providers must provide a negative test result from a PCR test conducted within 96 hours on the first day of school, but without the need for regular testing. Al Mansouri emphasized that all students are welcome to attend classes regardless of their vaccination status and that university students who are unable to receive vaccinations due to a medical condition or who have an exemption may enter the campus by presenting the PCR results needed for the green pass system on the Al Hosn app. "Checking the temperatures of students and employees is no longer necessary, provided that anyone with a high temperature does not attend classes, goes on sick leave, and gets tested to ensure that they do not have COVID-19. Social distancing inside facilities is also no longer mandatory but has been left to the discretion of each facility, including on buses," he said. He added that face masks are required inside closed areas, and e-learning or remote work options are now permitted for students and staff who have contracted COVID-19 or are experiencing respiratory system symptoms. Over one million students and 65,000 teaching staff will return to school after the preparations for their safe return are completed. He applauded the leadership of the UAE for coordinating with the appropriate authorities to secure the safety of students and staff in educational facilities as part of its eagerness to continue the educational process.
