Dh2,000, return ticket mandatory for these UAE visit visa holders

  DUBAI – UAE visit visa and tourist visa holders from five Asian countries are now required to show at least Dh2,000 in travel funds and a return ticket in order to enter the UAE. Airlines and travel agencies reiterated the stricter imposition of the rule for Pakistanis, Indians, Nepalis, Bangladeshis and Afghans wanting to travel to the country. The travelers also need to show a hotel booking if they are on tourist visa, or the contact details and address of their relative if they are coming to the UAE on visit visa. The requirements were set out by Dubai’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in a circular to airlines. More than 1,200 Pakistanis and 200 Indians holding visit visas have been stranded at Dubai International Airport since last week after they failed to meet entry requirements. The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs said that the travellers “did not have a valid hotel reservation or a relative’s reference, nor did they have a return ticket booking, as required by UAE immigration rules." The Pakistan Consulate General in Dubai said that repatriation of stranded passengers is ongoing and that more than 1,000 Pakistanis have already been sent home.
