Nine Asians arrested for stealing Dh2.25M worth cigarettes

Nine Asians were arrested for stealing 375 cartons of cigarettes worth Dh2.25 million from a warehouse in the Al Qusais area, Dubai, and were fined Dh2.25 million, the same amount as the stolen items. According to a report dated June 2022, a company manager filed a complaint that 375 cartons of cigarettes valued at Dh2.25 million were stolen from a tobacco company's warehouse. Detectives collected evidence from the crime scene and identified the suspects. Three were arrested in the Al Aweer area while offering a retail sale. During interrogation, the suspects admitted to the crime. They attempted to sell cigarettes near the Dubai Fruit and Vegetable Market with others who remained uncaught. One of the suspects also revealed that the stolen cigarettes were stored inside a warehouse in the Al Aweer area. The authorities set a trap and arrested other suspects with cartons of cigarettes in their possession. The court sentenced them to six months imprisonment, followed by deportation and a fine of Dh2.25 million. RZSP/Expat Media
