Dubai Law on emblem: Dh500,000 Fine for Misuse
The Dubai Government announced on Monday (October 2) a new law on the use of its official emblem, with a fine of up to Dh500,000 for those who misuse it. The new law was issued by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Under the Dubai law, the official emblem “mirrors its values and principles” and must be used across government facilities, documents and websites, and during official events.
Private entities may use Dubai’s official emblem, provided they obtain prior approval from the Dubai Ruler or his representative.
Improper use of Dubai's emblem may lead to imprisonment of between three months and five years, plus a fine of between Dh100,000 to Dh500,000.
Individuals must “completely discontinue” its use within 30 days unless they obtain prior approval to extend its usage. Exceptions include government entities or those granted permission to use the emblem.
The Chairman of Dubai's Ruler Court shall issue the necessary decisions to implement the provisions of the law that is effective from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette. ICA/Expat Media
