Dubai intensifies crackdown on overcrowding in apartments, villas

Dubai is tracking down individuals and "multiple" families that violate the emirate's regulations against overcrowding in apartments and villas. Dubai Municipality reported on Sunday that it has intensified building inspections and completed 19,837 field visits this year. According to the authorities, field inspection campaigns are undertaken to check standards violations in various residential areas throughout the emirate. Building inspection campaigns typically target overcrowded apartments and villas in residential areas, as well as violations related to total occupants, illegal partitions, and other alterations done by inhabitants. Hundreds of buildings in Dubai had previously encountered power and water supply disruptions and fines for unlawful changes made by owners and renters. The municipality had previously warned that overcrowding, unauthorized partitions, and modifications threaten the structures' safety. The crackdown is part of the municipality's efforts to ensure that residents follow the rules and requirements associated with occupants, singles, and families, as well as to improve its role in ensuring the comfort and safety of the citizens.
