In yet another first, Dubai is opening a floating mosque with an underwater prayer hall, the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) announced on Thursday (September 21). The three-storey floating mosque will be built at the cost of Dh55 million at Dubai Water Canal. Its underwater prayer hall will be able to accommodate up to 75 worshippers. "Visitors will walk into the mosque to pray or see the underwater praying hall," said Ahmed Khalfan Al Mansouri, cultural communication consultant at IACAD. The three-storey floating mosque will be built at Dubai Water Canal. The megaproject is expected to drive religious tourism in Dubai. According to IACAD, the floating mosque will be open to visitors next year. People from all religion are welcome to visit the mosque. IACAD is also set to start construction of the world’s first 3D-printed mosque in Bur Dubai in October. The 2,000-square-metre mosque is expected to open to worshippers in 2025. ICA/Expat Media
