Dubai Rainstorm Sparks 100 Emergencies, Destroys Trees, Roofs
A rainstorm that hit Dubai sparked 100 emergency calls to Dubai Municipality, majority reporting fallen trees and hazardous trash littering highways. According to Dubai Municipality on Sunday (August 6), crews began responding to the emergency calls as soon as the rain stopped on Saturday (August 5). Heavy rain with strong winds lashed Dubai on Saturday afternoon. Rain was also reported in Sharjah, Ajman and Al Ain. ALSO READ: UAE weather forecast for August 6-10 In Dubai, the Dubai Municipality received 69 reports of fallen trees in neighbourhoods and roads, including 16 reports of fallen trees on main roadways. The municipality also received 18 calls from residents to drain pools of rainwater from flooded roads. Emergency crew also worked in removing hazardous trash that littered the streets, including pieces of ripped metal roofing. There were no reports of deaths or injuries during Saturday's heavy rainfall in the country. The Dubai Municipality urged the public to report emergencies on 800900.
