Dh70 million allocated to people with special needs
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Development and Citizens Affairs, has ordered a provision to increase to Dh70 million the financial allocation for social benefits for Emirati people with special needs this year. This move is part of Dubai’s strategy to empower people with special needs, making them productive members of the community. It is to support them in contributing to the Emirate’s development journey. According to Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Director General of the Community Development Authority, the directive will help Dubai’s social benefits reach a larger number of people with special needs and foster their closer integration into society. She added that the rehabilitation support provided as part of social benefit schemes immensely benefits children with disabilities and reduces the financial burdens faced by families. Additionally, the social benefits covered by the decision include fees for kindergarten, school, and university enrollment, training and rehabilitation at specialized institutions, and the costs of employing shadow teachers, caregivers, personal assistants, and sign language interpreters. Assistive devices and technologies, repair of vehicles, and transportation are also covered by the social benefits.
