Abra stations in Dubai are getting an upgrade, with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) unveiling the new look of the Dubai Creek stations on Thursday (August 31). Renovation work on the Bur Dubai Model Station is already complete, and three other stations will be revamped next: Deira Old Souq Station, Dubai Old Souq Station and Sabkha Station. An abra is a traditional wooden boat that has been used by people to cross the Dubai Creek. A trip costs Dh1 and each abra can accommodate up to 20 people. Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, said the revamped Bur Dubai station has advanced amenities, including a sheltered outdoor space and retail outlets.
