Starting on January 1, 2023, the UAE will impose fines on private sector companies that fail to meet the country’s minimum Emiratisation target. According to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisaion (MOHRE), private sector companies have less than 50 days to go before the deadline. Under the Emiratisation target, private sector companies in the UAE that have 50 or more employees must hire Emiratis to make up two percent of their total workforce. Companies that fail to meet this target will be fined Dh6,000 per month, with Dh72,000 as annual contribution for every UAE national not appointed. “The Emiratisation support is carried out through two tracks – the first is to expand the base of jobs available to nationals in the private sector, and the second is to build a safety net that supports them in their career path,” according to MOHRE.
