Four people impersonating officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) stole a 1k gold bar from an Asian man in Karama. The Dubai Criminal Court recently convicted the fake CID gang and sentenced them to jail and also ordered them to pay a fine of Dh215,000. The robbery happened in February, after the victim received a call from one of the gang members who posed as a buyer for his gold bar. They met near a jewellery shop in Karama where the victim was accosted by men who claimed they were CID officers and said they were arresting him for allegedly selling fake gold. When he resisted arrest, they attacked him and took the gold bar from him before fleeing the scene. The incident was reported to the police, who investigated the matter. Police were able to arrest the group by tracking their getaway vehicle. Police arrested the gang members and seized the stolen gold bar in their possession. The gang members will be spending three years in jail, according to the Dubai court’s verdict.
