Dubai-based Filipina travel agency owner Malou Prado was awarded Global Filipino Icon on Thursday (November 10). This year's awards, organized by The Global Filipino Magazine in Dubai, honored 12 exemplary Filipinos in the UAE as Global Filipino awardees, with the title of Global Filipino Icon going to Prado. Prado recounted arriving in the UAE on a tourist visa in 2005. Trying her luck to find a better opportunity here, she ended up "exiting 10 times" to get a fresh visa each time. She would later turn the tables after opening her own travel agency MPQ Travel and Tourism in Dubai. With her business, Prado aims to make it easier for Filipinos to travel to and from the UAE, which she considers her second home. "I am proud to say I am an entrepreneur, and that Filipinos can be Overseas Filipino Entrepreneurs," Prado said, adding she is very happy that "real champions" such as those working hard in the UAE are given recognition through the awards.
