Filipina offers rent-free Dubai apartment for jobless Filipinos

A Filipina expat in Dubai has touched hearts after she took to social media to post that she wants to help any jobless Filipino with a rent-free apartment in the emirate. Michico Lopez Ramos is offering a one-bedroom apartment in Dubai’s bustling Al Rigga area to whoever needs it the most. They can stay in the vacant apartment rent-free until March 1 when her lease expires, she said. Speaking to Expatmedia.net, Ramos said she wanted to prioritise helping jobless Filipinos in Dubai who are still on visit visa. She hopes that her act of kindness can help someone going through tough times. “I know the feeling of being jobless, and being barely able to survive with all the bills that needed to be paid, especially during the pandemic. I’m not rich but I want to be God’s instrument to give people hope and courage to restart their life, and in a way lessen their burden so they can get up again,” Ramos told Expatmedia.net. Ramos, a 38-year-old who runs an events and digital marketing company in Dubai, said she also went through tough times, particularly during the pandemic when “no one could help you because they were facing the same problem”. Her post has since been shared more than 100 times on Facebook, with some tagging their friends and many lauding her for her kindness. Are there any takers yet? Four so far, she said. “One said he was sleeping in the rooftop and trying to survive with help from random people in Satwa. Another one said he hasn’t received his salary for a long time and is struggling to raise funds to renew his visa,” Ramos shared. Ramos has lived in Dubai in the last 19 years, and she says the most important thing she has learned is this: “If you have the capacity to help people, even in a small way, do it. God blesses us to be a blessing to others.” PIA/Expat Media
