Pay Dubai public transport fare with your face

Soon, commuters in Dubai will be able to pay for public transport fares using their face. The new AI technology is being showcased by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) at GITEX 2023, which kicks off on Monday (October 16) at the Dubai World Trade Centre. A smart gate will allow public transport users in Dubai to pay fares through facial recognition technology, according to RTA. It will work with Dubai Metro, Dubai Tram, buses, taxis and marine transport. The system operates by registering and identifying the user. It recognises the face using cameras and analyses it in 3D. The RTA did not say when it will roll out the new technology. Currently, public transport users use tickets, Nol cards or credit cards to pay for public transport fares. At GITEX, the RTA will also display a model of the world’s first 3D-printed abra. The abra can accommodate up to 20 passengers and has eco-friendly electric motors. ICA/Expat Media
