Expat wins Dh500,000 using numbers his sister picked

DUBAI – An Indian expatriate in Dubai is now Dh500,000 richer after winning the recent Mahzooz draw with the help of his sister. Mohammad, a 37-year-old IT professional, got the biggest surprise when his sister called him at 1:30am to tell him about his big win. He skipped watching the live draw on Saturday to get his PCR test to prepare for a trip to India. “I couldn't believe it. I thought she was joking but when I realized she wasn't, I was speechless,” he said. Mohammad revealed that his sister was his lucky charm “as she chose the numbers”. The Indian man said he will use part of his winnings to share to his extended family who lost two members due to Covid-19. “This money will take care of their kids and cover their education," he said. Mohammad said he had a gut feeling that he would strike luck one day. "I always believe that anything can happen and I walk around with a gut feeling that today could be my lucky day," he said. "Miracles can happen in everyone's life but fortune favours the brave and the hard working," he said. He shared the Dh1 million secondary prize in Mahzooz with a Syrian expat who also lives in Dubai after they both matched five out of six winning numbers. The 42-year-old Syrian man, Tarek, said he also missed watching the recent Mahzooz live draw and got the shock of his life after logging on to his account and finding out that he won Dh500,000. Tarek, 42, said he usually watches the weekly draws. "We had a family dinner so I missed watching the live draw. I logged onto the Mahzooz website to check the numbers and I noticed my balance was full," said the Dubai-based expat. "I quickly checked my email to confirm and saw the communication from Mahzooz. I started jumping up and down in happiness, then ran over and woke up my wife, just to make sure it was real," he said. Tarek, a small business owner, said he has been facing his biggest challenge during the pandemic and spent “the last little while I’ve been under a lot of pressure”. "With Covid-19, work issues have been piling up and the pressure was starting to weigh on me, then all of a sudden this happens. The emotions just can't be explained. I'm still speechless," he said. The Syrian man said he will use his winnings to take care of his family, including his brothers and sisters. "Sharing is the most important part of this. You are blessed that you won but sharing with your family and others, that is the true blessing," he said. ICA/Expat Media
