UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has appointed Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. Sheikh Khaled is the eldest son of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed. Sheikh Khaled's appointment was announced on Wednesday (March 29), which also saw Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed appointing his brothers to top roles. UAE's leadership changes: All you need to know Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed was the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi before he became UAE President and Abu Dhabi Ruler last year following the death of his brother, Sheikh Khalifa. By naming his son, Sheikh Khaled, as the new Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed has signaled who is next in line to the presidency. The appointment of Sheikh Khaled as heir apparent was widely expected as he has taken on more prominent roles in recent years. He has inaugurated several projects and hosted foreign dignitaries. In a separate decree on Wednesday, Sheikh Khaled was also appointed as Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office. Sheikh Khaled, 41, is also a member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Committee. The new crown prince was educated in the US before starting his formal government career within the security services.
