The Filipino community came together at Deira City Centre in Dubai on Thursday (June 11) for a flag-hoisting ceremony celebrating the 128th anniversary of Philippine Independence. The event was attended by Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Alfonso Ferdinand Ver, along with officers and members of the Filipino Social Club, which organised the gathering. Dozens of Filipinos joined the ceremony, which featured cultural presentations, patriotic performances and a display of Filipino heritage in the heart of Dubai. Traditional dance performances by various Filipino groups showcased the country’s rich cultural diversity, while a drum and bugle corps composed of Filipino students in the UAE added energy and excitement to the programme. Participants described the occasion as a celebration filled with pride, unity and love for the Philippines, with attendees coming together to honour the nation’s history and achievements while living abroad. The flag-hoisting ceremony served as a symbolic moment for the Filipino community, reaffirming their connection to their homeland and highlighting the contributions of Filipinos throughout the Emirates.

Burj Khalifa, ADNOC headquarters to light up in Philippine colours

The celebration comes ahead of one of the most anticipated Independence Day traditions in the UAE, with the Philippine flag set to illuminate the Burj Khalifa in Dubai on Friday (June 12) at 8:10pm. The tribute will be followed by a special lighting of the ADNOC headquarters building in Abu Dhabi at 8:30pm. The annual display has become a powerful symbol of the friendship between the Philippines and the UAE and is expected to attract thousands of Filipinos and supporters.

Major festival planned at Dubai World Trade Centre

Independence Day festivities will continue on Saturday (June 13) with one of the UAE’s largest Filipino community celebrations at Sheikh Saeed Hall 1 in Dubai World Trade Centre. Organised by the Filipino Social Club, the full-day event will run from 8am to 11pm and feature a wide range of cultural, educational and community activities. Highlights include the Philippine Chorale Festival, Filipino Community Unity Parade, Larong Pinoy games, robotics displays, sports tournaments, cultural showcases, Tula at Pinta competition, Pinoy Street Bazaar and the Philippine Festival Queen Competition. Families can also enjoy a Kids Barong and Filipiniana fashion show, free medical check-ups, food displays, live entertainment and concerts throughout the day. Organisers described the event as one of the biggest Philippine Independence Day celebrations in Dubai and encouraged Filipino organisations, churches and companies across the UAE to participate in the festivities. The programme forms part of a wider calendar of Independence Month activities taking place throughout the Emirates, celebrating Filipino culture, unity and the enduring bond between the Philippines and the UAE.
