The Burj Khalifa displayed the Philippine flag on its façade on Monday (June 12) to celebrate Philippine Independence Day along with the UAE’s Filipino residents and visitors. The familiar blue, red, white, sun and three stars took over the world’s tallest tower at precisely 7:50pm as dozens of Filipinos holding Philippine flaglets celebrated near its base. They were joined by Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Alfonso Ferdinand Ver, Philippine Consul General in Dubai and Northern Emirates Renato Dueñas Jr. and embassy and consulate staff and officials. “It’s a great thing to see our flag up there on the famous icon ,” Dueñas told Expatmedia.net after the display. This was the 5th year since the Philippine flag was first projected on the façade of the Burj Khalifa to mark Philippine Independence Day.On Monday, Filipinos celebrated their country’s 125th Independence Day. Celebrations were also witnessed in Qatar where famous buildings lit up in the colours of the Philippine flag. Elsewhere in Dubai, the Philippine flag was hoisted on a flagpole at the Deira City Centre, attended by the Philippine ambassador and members of the Philippine Business Council. The UAE is home to an estimated 700,000 Filipinos living and working here.
